My journey through finance started as a fresh-faced 20-year-old who was interested in learning more about stocks and trading. I was always curious about why these suits on Wall St. were screaming at black and green screens throwing tickets in the air like in the movies but it really wasn’t like that at all.
I moved into my first home purchased with 3 other twenty-somethings in Vancouver, BC, definitely a non-traditional way of purchasing a home. This wasn’t a forever home, to say the least, but it was enough to spark my interest deeper in leveraging finances.
I started working at the TD Visa Centre in 2000. I learned a lot about security and credit fraud. I was scooped up by VanCity Credit Union, the largest credit union in Canada, as a Credit Analyst, reviewing and funding new credit applications.
During this time I studied at BCIT for Personal Financial Planning and soon graduated in 2003. I also became licensed in Mutual Funds in 2008.
When working for a bank you are a jack of all finances and are expected to know a little bit about everything. At this point in my career, I really wanted to be more specific with my expertise and felt that mortgages would be a good fit. In 2016, I become a Licensed Mortgage Agent.
In 2021, I was approached by a new brokerage in Ottawa, Referral Mortgages, to be their Senior Underwriter and Mortgage Agent. What an amazing experience!
In 2022, we were nominated as Finalists for Best New Brokerage.
Since becoming a Mortgage Agent I’ve helped over 250 people buy their homes. I’ve always loved working with independent women and young families, perhaps because it’s what I see in myself.
My husband and I were both self-employed when we were looking for our next home. Edith was so helpful in finding us the right lender at a good rate and helping us through the whole process.
When I’m not talking about mortgages, I’m usually out in nature, doing yoga or hanging out with my little family. I have a mini me daughter named Freya. She’s pretty cool but I’m biased.
I have been part of the Ottawa yoga community since 2009. I proudly have been a Lululemon Ambassador in 2013, a Parliament Hill Yoga Teacher 2010-2016, a Co-founder of the Womenfolk Society, a Co-founder of Yoga Unity - Women of Colour and an Associate of Radha Yoga Youth Outreach. I formerly owned a yoga studio in Vancouver, still teaching here in Ottawa
